C G F G
I had a dream about you last night that I don't remember well.
There was a field of golden flowers where you cast your wondrous spell.
There was a volcanic eruption the whole city was doomed.
Then Paul pulled up in the Gator. We'd live 'cause he had room.
Chorus
Am G
I was the happiest I'd ever been as far as I can recall.
the happiest I'd ever been at all
Am G F G
I was the happiest I'd ever been, but in the morning you were gone
So we loaded up and drove off to escape the town's destruction,
Flagrantly defying some corporate reduction.
As we drove I was overcome by some sudden exhaustion,
So I fell asleep on your shoulder. I felt no need for caution.
repeat chorus
Bridge
Am G F G
When I awoke, the Gator was gone.
And we'd been left behind to die.
and I was sad 'cause it was my fault.
Am G F G
in sleep I'd fallen off, and you had followed me, and I couldn't understand why
repeat chorus
But we were together at last if only to face death,
so we turned towards the lava flow and took one final breath.
As we're swept along, I felt such joy despite the volcanic shower,
I couldn't help but sing along as the music grew louder.
repeat chorus

In the morning you were gone
In the morning you were gone

The meaning of this song:
This song is completely honest. One night, I dreamed that I was in love with the girl this song speaks of. I don't remember much about her other than that we did meet in a field of yellow flowers.
The dream took place at camp, which also happened to be a city owned by a big, evil corporation...somehow.
The city/camp was about to be wiped out by a volcano, but the evil corporation refused to evacuate because they wanted the city to continue making money for them right up until it was destroyed.
Anyway, this girl (M-something?...) and I met my friend Paul Beetner who was escaping in the camp's "Gator" (a utility cart, for those of you who don't know).
This girl and I loaded our bags of groceries that we were carrying for some reason and climbed in with Paul. Almost as soon as we started driving, I got tired and fell asleep.
When I woke up, I discovered that I had fallen off, but Paul had kept going. The girl had jumped off too. We had not escaped from the volcano, but we were together.
Then the volcano killed us, and I woke up. (The music mentioned in the last verse is Live's "I Wanna Dance with You." For some reason it was playing...)
